How movie language expresses dreams
In ancient times, dreams could be expressed in literature, and dreams in literature were particularly beautiful. In modern society, movies have become a new way of expressing dreams. The graphic expression language of movies has similarities with dreams, so it is impossible to tell whether it is watching a movie or dreaming.
Italian director Ferrico Fellini's classic 'Eight and a Half Parts' is a dream movie. Fellini called dreams 'the fables we tell ourselves and the myths that help us understand ourselves,' and said in the film he strives to create 'a stunning ambiguity between fantasy and reality.' Therefore, there are often some places in film-shooting techniques that deliberately obscure the end of reality and the beginning of dreams. There are many odd-looking characters in his films, and the scenery is surreal and abrupt. These are all undeniably inspired by dreams. The colors presented on the screen in his films are not only part of the film language, but also to express the 'concept and feeling of dreams.'
Movies use almost magic to play with images between the palms of their palms, which seems to be the best way to express dreams. Naturally, some well-known film masters have used dreams to unleash the beauty of art. Swedish film giant Ingmar Bergman's film and dream relationship goes further than Fellini. He always used the same actors, and over time, the audience became very familiar with their faces, so that they became a kind of 'model' character that was extremely easy to confuse when watching different movies. As one critic said, his work as a whole forms a rich picture of repetitive dreams. Bergman appreciated the metaphor and said that if audiences found that the dreams in his films were similar to their own, that would be the best communication. The characteristics of dreams in his films, whether it is the storyline or the characters, maintain a kind of statue, like a dream-like performance. However, Bergman's work not only presents pictures of dreams. For him, making films is as much as dreaming, one of the essence of life.
